Building a cloud marketplace around Windows, Linux and a DevOps operating model

LinkedUp

The challenge

LinkedUp required a marketplace platform on AWS that could support both Microsoft and Linux workloads while maintaining a consistent delivery and operational approach. Mixed operating-system environments can easily produce separate deployment methods, monitoring gaps and unclear ownership if each component is managed in isolation. The platform therefore needed infrastructure capable of hosting the marketplace and an engineering model for building, releasing and supporting its different components. The work took place while LinkedUp operated across the United Kingdom and Pakistan; the company was later sold and wound down its Pakistan operations, so this profile represents a historical engagement.

What we delivered

## AWS marketplace foundation We supported implementation of the marketplace environment on AWS, structuring the infrastructure around the needs of the application and its supporting services. The design accounted for components running on both Microsoft and Linux platforms. ## Consistent DevOps delivery A DevOps-led approach was applied across the mixed workload estate. Source control, repeatable deployment, environment management and operational checks were treated as shared engineering practices even where the underlying operating systems differed. ## Microsoft and Linux workload support The implementation recognised the different operational requirements of Windows and Linux components while keeping common expectations around access, configuration, logging and change control. This reduced the likelihood of one side of the platform becoming an unmanaged exception. ## Operational readiness The work included the practices needed to support the marketplace after deployment: documented environments, observable services, defined release paths and infrastructure management aligned with application delivery.

Outcome

LinkedUp obtained an AWS-hosted marketplace environment that could accommodate Microsoft and Linux components within a common DevOps operating model. The platform work connected infrastructure implementation with repeatable delivery and operational expectations. The engagement demonstrated how a mixed workload estate can use shared engineering standards without pretending that Windows and Linux have identical requirements. That balance supported a more coherent marketplace platform and clearer responsibility for change. Because LinkedUp was later sold and its Pakistan operations were wound down, this case study is retained as a historical record of delivered work rather than a description of a currently operating customer platform.
